I succeded In configuring my Cisco 7960 Phone with Babytel. I used the version 8.9 of the firmware. After filling the SIP proxy info as well as the outbound proxy fields, just set the VoiP Control port to 5061.
Line Settings:
Name: BabyTel Login
Shortname: (Optional, Label at the top line of the display)
Authentication Name: BabyTel Login
Authentication Password: SIP Password
Display Name: (Optional)
Proxy Address: sip.babytel.ca
Proxy port: 5060
In General SIP settings. Scroll after the List of Lines
Preferred Codec: g729a
Register with Proxy: yes
Register Expires: 600
Enable VAD: yes
VoiP control port: 5061
Start Media Port: 16384
End Media Port:32766
Outbound Proxy: nat.babytel.ca
Proxy Port: 5065
NAT Options should be filled if you’re behind a router or a Firewall
Register with Proxy: yes

You can customize much more if you provision the phone with TFTP. I was able to have the “messages” work that way. If you look on the phone you can also configure an SNTP server, the time will be adjusted with a network time server.
This is a wonderful phone. I would like to thank the kind BabyTel technician who helped me diagnose why the register messages weren’t going through. The directions should be the same for the 7940 and I suppose, the other Cisco Phones.
I now have the “24″ ringtone as well…
